Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has ordered the immediate revocation of what he described as the illegal allocation of portions of the Red Brick Market land along Numan Road, directing relevant authorities to reclaim the property.
The governor said the affected land, which belongs to the government, was allegedly allocated to some traders and individuals by unauthorized persons without statutory approval, due process or remittance of revenue to the state treasury.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, the allocations violated the Land Use Act, the Adamawa State Urban Planning Development Authority (ASUPDA) Law and established government procedures.
Fintiri directed ASUPDA to immediately take possession of and recover all portions of the market land affected by the alleged illegal allocations.
The governor also ordered all persons occupying the land unlawfully to vacate the area immediately, warning that failure to comply would result in forceful eviction and possible prosecution for criminal trespass.
He further warned government officials and civil servants against participating in or facilitating the illegal allocation and sale of government land.
"Any official found culpable will be investigated, dismissed and prosecuted. Public office is a trust, and this administration has zero tolerance for abuse of that trust," the governor said.
Fintiri also advised residents and traders to avoid purchasing, leasing or taking possession of government land from individuals or groups not duly authorized by the Ministry of Lands and Survey and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
He stressed that any transaction involving government land that does not follow approved channels would be considered invalid.
"Buyers risk forfeiting both the land and their money, as government will not pay compensation to victims of fraud.
Always verify allocations with the relevant ministries before making payments," he warned.
The governor said the action was aimed at protecting public assets, ensuring proper urban planning, safeguarding government revenue and restoring order in the state's markets.
